Change In Leadership

Announcing a transformative leadership change as Executive Director Sarah Thornburg steps down in June. With 13 years of visionary leadership, Thornburg was a driving force behind substantial growth, introducing impactful programs like the Circles initiative. As we embark on this exciting journey, the Board actively seeks a new Executive Director to join us in our mission of building a stronger community and ending poverty. Changing the Narrative

Friends In Deed’s Circles program is working with other Circles chapters in the state to “change the narrative.” Here are some of the ways people in our community are going to take action.

Donate Your Car

We have one of the only programs in Washtenaw County that doesn’t sell a donated car but passes it on to the people who need it most.

What we do

Our Programs and Services

Furniture

We accept donations of used furniture and pass it on, for free, to our community’s many families in need.

Transportation

We offer car repair assistance to families who need a car to get to work and/or to obtain medical treatment for a severe condition.

Circles

Circles is a program  based on the premise that developing meaningful relationships across socio-economic lines has a dramatic impact on the effort to move families out of poverty.

Direct Assistance

Our direct assistance programs involve utilities, one-time prescriptions, monthly storage, work shoes, educational supplies for adult learners, and other things on a case by case basis.

Our Mission Statement

Helping People in Need and Building Community to End Poverty
